Poetry by David Pambianchi

Girl in the Rain

(for Ema)

Soft laughter and smiles on a beautiful wet face,
That's how I found my Girl in the Rain.
I did not know how often her face was wet,
Helpless tears year upon year
All I saw then,
Soaked hair and skin,
Stories of wild horses or groomed, black and chestnut, tan and spotted.

Together the downpour brought us three days of intermittent thunder.
Then the lightning followed.

And soon after when the rain had stopped,
And she would not let me gallop beside her,
In full sunlight,
I returned my beautiful Girl in the Rain.
