Sean P. Callahan

I have been a full time Artist for the past fifteen years. During that time I have focused on watercolor as my medium. As an Artist I am drawn to the luminosity and transparency of watercolor. I try to push the medium to its limits using thick paint next to subtle thin washes of color.
Most of my paintings are based on something that hit me visually that I had to explore on paper. Capturing the soul of a dog in his eyes, the light dancing on the surface of the water, finding interesting organic patterns in nature, or taking simple objects and composing an interesting composition by playing with light, shadow and color.

I call Vermont my home which brings me much inspiration. Two years ago I opened Dog Tired Studio in Vergennes Vermont which is a studio/gallery where I paint, teach, and show my work. I enjoy traveling and documenting my travels in watercolor.

In the past few years I have focused most of my painting on the dog as subject matter. I have to say I have never met a dog I didn't like. I feel my passion for dogs comes through in my painting and I am constantly looking for the next dog painting inside me. Painting has saved my life in many ways. I am driven to it and feel blessed to be able to do it. It is a gift that I cherish.
