Poetry by Matt Stuckenberg

Triggering Metamorphosis

Triggering metamorphosis
Opportunities
Gratuities
In the hopes of
Giving birth to something new

Like birds
We flock together
Talk together
Like herds
We are raised
Only to fulfill a need
That often isn't ours

Our needs
Take flight
On sleepless nights
Upon the wings of dreams
Only to return
To waking life
To rediscover meager schemes

As if we never left at all

Why is it that
Reality snaps
Our dreams so far from here?
Over distant spans
Across the sands
Deserting our blossoming
Hopes and dreams

We thirst for more
Like vegetation
Far from the shores
That quench us
For the opportunity
Until a death grip takes hold
And we cannot fight off it's clutches

Our whole lives
Lie in wait
For the chance to open up
At our feet

We grieve
And grieve
And grieve and gently weep
For the chance escapes

Years pass by
And that one
Opportunity
Is no where to be found
While others live blessed lives
They fly
While others are aground

At the end
Of the longest waiting list
Of life
Our feet stand over
The very ground chosen to hold us
Forever
The loving embrace
Of Death's eternal grace
Beckons us forwards

It is then
Where mortality ends
And those who
Never chose to be alive
Never chose to celebrate
Awaken
