Poetry by Claire Tom

dawn

Reflections on the Autumn Flight

magic

dawn

a golden yellow hue
softly it creeps
chasing the darkness
and the chill of the night

peeking over your shoulder
barely brushing the skin
whispering, calling
"awake to my light"

slowly you stir
to the gentle caress
smiling as rays
find their way to your bed

with feather-light touches
and the warmth of a kiss
the morning, it coos to you
"arise sleepyhead!"

the flutter of eyelashes
and you pleasantly groan
you yawn and you stretch
and bask in the glow

a new day begins
with the sun smiling bright
as its tendrils stir
all the creatures below

Reflections on the Autumn Flight

Dreary gray skies
A light fall of rain
Nothing I do today
Eases the pain

I sit by the window
And mourn what can't be
My soul how it longs
Just to have you with me

I cry without tears
I weep without sound
I stare into silence
It lies all around

I can feel loneliness
Seep through my clothes
I can feel sadness
Alight on my nose

Whispers of sorrow
I don't want to hear
The song of despair
As darkness draws near

My mind grasps for words
But they slip through like sand
False hopes and my dreams
Have nowhere to land

I sit here alone
And I am afraid
Where would we be now
If only I'd stayed

Now there is no time
For one last goodbye
Without looking back
I must fly

magic

magic is
that thing you feel
within your very bones
beyond your grasp
not quite a touch
yet something that you hold
in your heart and in your mind
that's how it is transformed
the thought with the emotion
a spell to charm a potion
a light becomes a wish come true
and words unlock
the magic
