08.08.08

Eight years of a lifetime.
Eight years for love to grow.
Experienced later in life
Enhanced the meaning and
Removed the baggage of youth.

Events we never expected
Only brought us closer-
Binding our hearts together.

Long vacations,
Short weekend getaways.
Drives through the mountains,
Cruises to exotic places.
Time stood still on an
Island in Lake Huron.

Questions asked
And answered.
Yes, it is me...
Waiting for you.

The crest to the chasm,
Wonder and inspiration.
Lives changed-
Both for the better.
Trust broken and renewed.
Doors opened and walls tumbled.
Friends amazed and bewildered.
08.08.08...
A new chapter began.

HISTORY

The terror of not knowing
What will happen by the time
The sun goes down.
The exhaustion
From always living
In a heightened awareness
Of one's surroundings.
The sadness of witnessing
Family members ripped out
Of your arms and being sold.
The anger you must feel,
But not allowed to show.
The brutality inflicted upon
You in ways no one wants to fathom.
The mistrust of anyone you
Come in contact with.
The abandonment of God,
The asking of "why has he forsaken you?"
But the Strength.
Tenacity.
Endurance.
Can not even imagine.
Slavery:
A cruel, inhuman existence.
What were our ancestors thinking?

ECONOMICS

When the essence of what you know is crumbling,
When the beliefs you have held to be true
Come up false,
What is there to do?
We can call for change,
We can denounce those who have
Put us in this place,
We can sprinkle blame
Like seeds in a garden...
But in the end,
We must take responsibility.
Each of us,
For allowing such a moment to occur.
That which is ours
Is ours for a reason.
Complacency is no excuse,
The same as ignorance.
Make choices wisely,
For you not only affect yourself,
But generation upon generation to come.
