A Word from the Artist - Lois Andersen

My art has always been a part of my life. As a child I always had crayons or pencils close by. My drawings took me to imaginary places, happy places. Through my teens my passion for art and the things I painted increased. Again I was searching my deepest thoughts and interests.
Eventually the responsibilities of life pushed my art aside. Occasionally it came out in one creative form or another. There was always the promise to myself to follow my dream of becoming an artist.

Now in my later years I have finally come to a place in my life where I have returned to my art. It is again a passion, something I must do to be happy.

I have had some art training here and there over the years. Basically I am mostly self-taught. I learn by exploring my medium. I paint what I love and I love what I paint. I paint mainly in oils. I am now trying to master watercolors and other mediums. I must challenge myself everyday to be the best I can be.

To further challenge myself and perhaps receive validation I put my art out for the world to see. Small local shows to international juried exhibits have had my little paintings exhibited along with artists I have admired and found inspiring over the years.

My Paintings:

Most of the body of my work has been of animals. I am especially known for my equine art as well as my pet portraits. The joy of my clients when they receive a portrait of their beloved horse, dog or cat, brings me joy in return.
I occasionally paint portraits of people as well although I find them quite more challenging.

As you view my paintings you will not see any dramatic statements, deep philosophies, or abstract thoughts. Just the humble visions of a person keeping a promise to herself…

Lois Andersen was born in 1946 and grew up in rural areas of Northern California. She has always enjoyed the animals around her and the beautiful country in the far northern reaches of our state.

Always wishing to pursue a degree in art she managed to take a few art classes throughout the years but raising a family and working did not leave much time for formal study. A few years ago with her two sons raised, and on their own, she started painting again. Now, life is good with her art fulfilling her life.
