Haiku Sonnet: Love Letters

someday you will read
the love letters you have kept
tied with red ribbon

saving a gentle
kiss to pull out when you are
alone and no one

cares about sunday
afternoons and chalk drawings
in the park. it will

be me writing this
lover's letter disguised as
a haiku sonnet

thinking of you some
sunday remembering me

Haiku Sonnet: They Came From Turtle Island

fall finds a chilled breeze
after the apple fest sends
tourists heading south

ojibwa brothers
recall the sacred harvest
following father

into the canoe
knocking sticks pulling wild rice
preserving ancient

ways of forefathers
before cheap casinos and
bad river whiskey

a rice moon tells tribal tales
of a thousand years

Haiku Island Love Sonnet

stealing island sex
hidden behind the ferns and
the rare hibiscus

our hemp hammock swings
between two curved coco palms
short steps from the sand

the blue water breeze
caresses us like magic silk
pulled over naked

strangers locked into
a single rhythm of wind
love and gentle waves

I remember you
were as lonely as I
