Political....Me!?

I've never considered myself a particularly political individual. Growing up, I just had a vague understanding of how it worked, pretty much accepting things as the norm. As I've grown older, I find I don't accept things quite as readily as I once did. I question things and want to know why or why not. There are far too many things, I've discovered that are just fundamentally wrong with the way Government goes about the daily business of running this Country. Fact is, if Government were held to the rules of business and the laws it passes, it would have been 'out of business' many times over. Let me list a few glaring problems that you may want to think about:

Though we are rich in natural resources and industry, nearly all of our material goods are imported from overseas, namely China.
With all of our Scientific, Engineering and Technological advances, we remain dependent on oil. Other countries, once dependent on oil and facing faltering economies have turned their economies around after turning to alternative sources of energy, yet we remain entrenched in our addiction.

It is obvious that our Government officials are ruled by the Oil Industry, the Healthcare Industry, Special Interest groups, etc., etc. The fact is that little change can take place where money lives. They buy our politicians, plain and simple. Exxon Oil made the largest profit of any company in U.S. history last year while gas prices went up another .14 cents…TODAY!

Presidential elections are held between Democrats and Republicans…period. Do you honestly think an independent can win a presidential election in this country? Do you think that's fair? How often is it mentioned how much money a candidate has raised? Does it bother you to think that our President may have won because he had more campaign money? Why not do away with this process and have the 3 big networks donate the same air-time to all candidates. Feed the starving with the damn campaign money!

Flat tax - this idea means the rich have to pay more. That is why it will never be a law that's accepted in this Country. It makes too much sense. Instead, the 30 to 50 thousand dollar salaried employees like you and I continue to pay for healthcare and special programs for illegals in this country. We pay for higher healthcare insurance while lawyers (I refuse to capitalize) reap billions in frivolous lawsuits that idiot judges support.

Windfall tax - How much did Exxon pay of that $40.7 billion profit last year, back to the Government? Do you think it was the same percentage you and I paid in taxes? I'd like to find out, wouldn't you? Why not a Windfall Tax for these mega billion profiting companies? Lawyers will see that doesn't happen. Lawyers see to everything don't ya know? Almost anything wrong can be traced back to these hounds.

Priorities - In a time when we are…how many trillion in debt, should we really be sending billions of dollars into space right now? If we are not close to discovering another planet where we can move before we destroy this one, what's the sense of it. I say put NASA on hold for a bit. We've got more important issues.

Apathy - We have a young generation raised on American Idol and Starbucks. We are in debt and driven away from organization. We are interested in appearance as opposed to substance. We have become sheep.

There's more, but I'll stop there. What will right this sinking ship? A visit from God? That may be the only thing! If there was ever a time we could use it, I think the time is now! Lord help us!
