The Poetry Of Paul Squires

QUOD ERAT DEMONSTRANDUM

"But I am a witch and I take the weather with me and the past three days we had beautiful sunshine and it rained here in B……. and now today it is beautiful sunshine"

…seared salmon strips and salad
with a lemony vinaigrette, leaned back,
looked up as full and happy and content
as the moon rising over the river,

when thoughts of their own volition
flew to you to slide softly into that
warm bed where all wanderings and
wonderings dissolve into an embrace.

Since every sense is encompassed
By the delight of you
I quite literally cease to be
and in my place and in my arms

the softness of your skin
and its scent of orchids,
the slow inevitable rhythm of your breathing,
the smile which changes your eyes
and time's fascination with your lips

and was only returned to the garden bar of
the riverside restaurant by tinny speakers
crackling into life and playing

"Everywhere you go,
You always take the weather,"

Paul Squires is un-elected Poet Laureate (and resident genius) of the entire kingdom of Australia. His work blends several worlds at once, eclipsing none but inclusive of all, emotionally bonding the reader to the words.
