The Doppler Effect

Everything seems so far away lately
We spread out and spread in an
attempt to touch everything.
In the process,
we lose our center.
I am tearing at the middle.
fabric, seams, becoming thinner,
losing contact with age.
This personal redshift
of the soul
leaves us out of sight
lines of communication are down
compress, condense, unify. stop.

Couplet

Love is
a yellow daisy
on candlelit backporches
two people swinging
to the rhythm of crickets

a swelling crescendo

a kiss on the cheek

falsetto

a goodbye that only means hello

overcast mornings
with sunlit faces
two people walk
to the sonatta of robins
a fingertip brush, paints in orange
every heartbeat in her hand

Give me moments

she met him in a grocery store
she'd never seen his face before
she didn't even know his name
even so she loved him all the same
even so she loved him all the same

she went to school, saw no one else
she asked herself, if he was worth it
nonetheless she watched him everyday
nonetheless she watched him everyday

he moved into the house nextdoor
in the kitchen, on the floor
she said hello and he replied
I have never seen your face before
why've I never seen your face before

over coffee, in the park
they talked like they never had before
eyes making love, je t'adore
she said that she hoped it would never end
she said that she hoped it would never end

off to college, bodies spent
questioning if this was meant
to last longer than their feelings could
to last longer than their feelings would

two thousand miles away, he said to her
we're not in the backyard, anymore
let's move on, we've got all life to learn
let's move on we've got all life to learn

back on the playground, in the store
she wondered what it all was for
where does the time go she wants to know
where does the time go she wants to know

finally, it's time to die
she's prepared to say goodbye
she wishes he would be right by her side
she wishes he would be right by her side

memories, on the wind
he sits thinking 'bout her still
suddenly the world seems awfully still
suddenly the world seems awfully still.

legatto

silent anticipation asks the gravel underfoot with downcast eyes

a whisper
a question
a kiss

Love is
two people
forever intertwined
kissing to the drumbeat of raindrops
the resonance of rainbows
the symphony of sunsets
the melody of the moon
the music of love

Reminiscence

I'm just a mayfly
remembering yesterday
a drop of water in an endless ocean
nostalgic for the clouds
autumn red
orange
and yellow
reminiscing about green
I'm just a boy
utterly in love
with someone
and something
as impossible
and beautiful
as the wind
and the stars
a summer day
a winter night
a whisp of hair
a passing glace
a passionate kiss
memories
never forgotten
of you

Paradisiacal

I've found the place
where I can rest peacefully
with your breath alongside my own,
knowing it doesn't matter to us tomorrow
I've found the place
Where I can sleep silently
without worrying about yesterday
I've found the place
Where I can breathe easily
being
Who I want
What I want
Where I want to be
Without worrying about somebody's prying eyes
I've found the answer
to a question I haven't bothered to ask
and even so
I still don't know
If these are questions
I should be asking
Or secrets
I should be telling
or conversations
I should be having
But in the end
there's only one question that sticks in my mind, and that is
Whom do I miss more?
the place, the people, or the person?
