The Poetry Of Michelle
Angelini
The Christmas Tree
Teardrops form the icicles intertwine
between the cranberries, popcorn, and
multi-colored balls. Love's light,
from a heart, illumine the snow-covered
ground while He whispers in their ears
a message heard the world round.
I am the reason for the celebration, not
the things
you choose to buy. This evergreen denotes my birth,
for in your heart I will never die.
I came for those who live in sadness and in strife
and the star atop the tree is what guided men to my life.
The people gathered 'round, their faces
bathed
in the twinkling lights. They heard the whispered words,
and raised their voices in melodious songs. As the sun
fell behind the darkened clouds, their eyes beheld
the wonder of the star shining from the north.
Oh, people raise your voices for the miracle
you've seen. I was born in a manger, of a virgin,
not the son of a queen. My witnesses were my parents,
and the lowly sheep, goat, and cow-
the son of a carpenter, still here for all now.
Even today this evergreen is a living one,
bringing joy to the hearts of those who celebrate
the birth of God's only Son.
A Baker's Fourteen
1.
Parents' care surrounds babies and children
in place of dumpster walls or abuse's pain
2.
Healthy lives replace illness
and disease meets its match in research laboratories
3.
All people have roofs over their heads and four walls,
shielding them from natural human elements of danger
4.
Children's bellies are flat, free from the bloat of hunger's
ache
and grocery stores, not garbage cans are food sources for families
5.
Unemployment office business slows to a crawl
rather than having every chair filled and long lines with frustrated
workers
6.
Pleasurable wants become as commonplace as critical needs
for food, shelter, clothing, and more
7.
Domestic pets know the protection of human alphas,
while roaming the streets or fighting their own kind become distant
memories
8.
The rich will help the poor rather breaking their backs
to aid the rich with budget cuts the destitute do not know about
9.
An open book becomes the tool to advance in life,
rather than guns or knives to take what belongs to someone else
10.
Schools are filled to capacity with eager minds
while jails and prisons echo in emptiness
11.
Beauty of the spirit is the winning contender to bodily attractiveness
that society promotes as archetypes of success
12.
As life wanes, the old, the sick, the formerly serving know the
same care
they gave for family, friends, or country, not the sting of neglect
13.
Serene thoughts infuse life's anarchy so, that the breath
of freedom's air is universal
14.
A world mosaic forms when one hand holds another
to make a colorful circle of life
The Ease of Grace
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we
may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Heb.
4:16
Not that it was the lack of help,
which hurt her, just their attitude.
Boldly, but in silence,
she found peace where she least
expected it.
This dove cradled her;
sheltered her. And in His
protection, she exhaled.
Crawling from the Wreckage
"When you hate, the only one that suffers is you because
most of
the people you hate don't know it and the rest don't care."
Medgar Evers
Accumulated toxicity overwhelms
her senses. She sees the light, knows
the struggle to reach it, as the path
leads through detours and tests,
seeking to break her spirit.
Why?
It's time to edge out;
so emotional debris piles grow
no higher; time for work on back-burnered
dreams. She fights against accumulated
negativity, a cancer of hate and anger.
Why?
She knows that with hands, head,
heart, and determination,
she can start crawling from the wreckage,
freeing her mind from invisible chains
she holds in place by allowing others
to live in her head rent-free.
And she knows why. Freedom is the reward,
but winning it challenges the spirit.
Each 'why' she asks always contains
the answer within the question.
