Poetry
by Doug Ordunio
II-An
Intimate Silence
Satie's Venomous Obstacles
Broken-down upright
Some keys absent
Appearance of bad dental care
Unnecessary ones for this music
Haunted luminous green eyes peered in wonder
Through the chicken wire
Embedded in glass
What is that?
Said a face inside a pageboy
My explanation followed
A pianist
Who drew lyric sounds from the keys
An accompanist
For my best friend
The voice teacher
Then the fateful opening of a door
A date was planned
Nervously awaited
As the appointed evening arrived
Looking formal
Actually wearing a tie
Enjoyed the performance
But curiosity
Killed me about the end of the evening
After the recital
In a quiet car before her house
The crickets chirped in the night
Touched her subtle breast
That doesn't bother you
Does it?
You don't hear me stopping you-the reply
A passionate kiss followed
Tastings and mutual love
Unusual for a Catholic girl
Barely eighteen but already a woman
Jenice
Appeared
Evolved
Matured
Her adult qualities shocking
Eyewitness to her growth
As her hair lengthened
Photographed her amid trees and bushes
The road seemingly emerged from her head
As though a well-traveled path of thoughts flowed from her mind
Watched a tall sprinkler as it cast rainbows
In circles through the air
For at least two hours
Filmed her as she sat before crypts
Stoic beatific profile
Gaze approached heavenward
Two years later
We sat clothed in my bedroom
Lost in our mutual gaze
Suddenly-as we looked enrapt
Through our pupils
The liquidity of aqueous humors
Into bottomless darkness
Two souls merged
Complete harmony
Although we later parted
Amidst late adolescent confusion
That moment lives
When two beings touched
Without physicality
Without words
In intimate silence
