The Poetry of Maria Massarella

Cipria

Let gentle sun's rays spread morning
gold upon skin, that i may waken
in warmth, to languid rose-scents

lace me in pastel chiffon, soft
transparencies with a touch of retro
that i may swirl radiance into eyes

sprinkle promises of primrose-stars
to fingertips, wind-kiss my hair and
i will wed you, Life, on this summer day

when the seeds of treasured moments
stretch to reach heart's infinite fields,
where the vicinity of whisper to lips

sedates silent aches and, in praise in
unconfined adoration, inhaling your
beauty immeasurable with compelling

passion, quivers and heart-flutters i
promise to forever love you fragile,
divine, gossamer breath of gods.

authors note:
this poem was written in hospital,
on my first meeting with my oncologist
when my radiation therapies were over.

poesia d'amore

Tonight
my chalice is empty.
Withered
the ruby petals
silent fall from this rose

Yet, your fingers
need not trace kisses
nor pencil reddenings
to lips aflame with desire
when moist my tongue
still savours liquid fire
in ambrosias of longago

Your hands
need not spread oils
perfumes nor feather
silken caresses to skin
when the fragrance
of forevers linger
pervade the now

Tonight love
I have come robed
in Time's dress
to be light in your eyes
adorned in memories
to love you.

… One would wonder if there be voice enough in a poem to reveal traits of me, that word by spoken word, whisper by luring whisper, the portrait is breathed to life and you would know me unveiled woman … for donna, I am … and though geographically it is in Italy I reside, my soul inhabits the any where and the every where of the universe. What difference would it make to know where travels have taken me, where embrace has held me captive, or how adventurous the spirit that liberates my wings when the spaces in which I dwell are are simply infinite … lovelight&peace m.a
